Artist Profile: Sister Servants of the Eternal Word

The Sister Servants are a young and growing community in Birmingham, Alabama
whose religious life blends the contemplative and apostolic dimensions. They
have come from more than ten states in the U.S. to form a religious family of
Sisters who share a special love for the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus, and for Our
Lady and St Joseph, and who strive in all things to be loving and obedient
daughters of Holy Mother Church. The holy friendship of their beloved patrons St
Francis of Assisi and St Dominic Guzman inspired their motto, "Veritas ~
Caritas": to proclaim the truth in love, primarily by a joyful life of charity,
humility and obedience. The Sisters' apostolic mission is catechesis (teaching
the Catholic faith), primarily through retreats.
Retreatants and pilgrims come from all 50 states (and overseas!) to Casa Maria,
the Convent and Retreat Center which the Sisters have been building with their
own hands. Since Casa Maria opened its doors in 1996, guests have been struck
with the beauty and reverence of the liturgy and traditional devotions at Casa
Maria, and many have begged the Sisters, "Please record your singing!" The
Sister Servants' repertoire encompasses a variety of musical styles from to
Latin motets and Gregorian chant to simply harmonized devotional favorites in
English and several other languages, to orchestral arrangements of beautiful
Masses and anthems for feast days. The Sister Servants desire to give back to
Catholics their rightful musical heritage by re-introducing to them lost gems
from the great treasury of Catholic music which lift up the heart and mind to
God, and inspire deeper communion with Him in prayer.
